How to use the QR code generator
- Choose what the code should do. Each tab creates a different kind of QR code. A URL code opens a website; a Wi-Fi code joins a network; a contact code saves a contact.
- Fill in the details. The preview updates while you type. If something is missing or invalid, the field tells you what to fix.
- Adjust the design if you like. Open “Customize design” to change colors, module and corner shapes, the margin and error correction, or to add a logo.
- Test it, then download. Scan the preview with your phone, then download a PNG, JPEG or SVG.
Which file format should you download?
| Format | Best for | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| SVG | Print, signage, design tools | Vector file that stays sharp at any size. Open it in Illustrator, Inkscape, Figma, Affinity or Canva. |
| PNG | Websites, documents, presentations | Supports a transparent background. Use 1024 px or more for print. |
| JPEG | Tools that don’t accept PNG | Always has a solid background. Slightly larger files for the same sharpness. |
Picking a size for print
A useful rule of thumb: the printed code should be at least one tenth as wide as the distance it will be scanned from. A code read from 50 cm away needs to be about 5 cm wide; a poster read from 3 meters away needs about 30 cm. Very small codes on business cards or packaging work down to roughly 2 cm (0.8 in), as long as the content is short and the print is crisp.
The more you put into a code, the more modules it has and the larger it must be printed. If a URL is long, consider a shorter page address rather than shrinking a dense code.
Keeping codes readable
Strong contrast matters more than anything else: dark code, light background. Keep the blank margin around the code (the quiet zone) and test with more than one phone before printing a large run. Ziqeno shows a warning when a color, logo or size choice may make a code hard to scan.
