    How SMS QR codes behave

    When scanned, the phone opens its messaging app with your number and message filled in. The person scanning sees the message and decides whether to send it. Nothing is sent automatically, and standard messaging rates from their carrier may apply.

    Ziqeno uses the widely supported SMSTO:number:message format, which the built-in cameras on iPhone and Android phones understand.

    Ideas for SMS codes

    • Keyword sign-ups: pre-fill a keyword such as “JOIN” for a text alert service.
    • Queues and pick-ups: customers text “READY 42” when they arrive.
    • Feedback and voting: one code per option, each with its own message.

    Tips

    Include the country code in the number. Keep the message short: a single SMS holds 160 basic characters, and accented letters or emoji reduce that. If your audience mainly uses WhatsApp, a WhatsApp QR code may suit them better.
