Higher levels survive scratches, dirt and logos better, but make the code denser. Medium suits most uses; choose High for logos or outdoor print.

When a text QR code makes sense

Text codes show their content on the scanning phone without opening a website. That makes them useful where there is no signal, or where the content shouldn’t depend on a server:

    • Asset tags, serial numbers and inventory labels
    • Instructions on equipment, such as reset steps or safety notes
    • Puzzle hunts, escape rooms and classroom activities
    • Short messages on gifts and invitations

    How much text fits?

The absolute limit is 2,953 bytes at Low error correction. For plain English that is around 2,900 characters; accented letters, emoji and non-Latin scripts take two to four bytes each. The counter under the text box shows how much of the capacity you’re using.

In practice, keep it much shorter. A code holding a full paragraph is dense and needs to be printed large. Under a few hundred characters scans comfortably at normal sizes.

    How scanners show text

Most phone cameras show a preview of the text with an option to copy or search it. Some older scanner apps only show the first lines, so put the most important information first.
